Decent but not the best pedeometer on the market
I bought this pedometer a couple days ago at a local sporting goods store (for so I realize I overpaid). All and all, it is ok. It is an improvement over the standard mechanical pedometer, but probably not as nice as other ones available on Amazon.
Pros:
memory function records your daily steps (resets at 12 midnight)
doesn't make the usual clink sound of mechanical pedometers
has a clock, stopwatch and alarm
can be worn anywhere, you just need it to sit tightly against your body, so not really a bag/purse pedometer, but nice that you can stick it in a tight pocket or on your shirt.
Cons:
the face scratches really easily
the clip that comes with puts the pedometer at an awkward angle if you want to put it on your belt
lot of unnecessary menu screens, a little difficult to maneuver through the options and screens
Just a heads up- you can't really wear this in just any fashion- the instruction manual states you have to keep it generally perpendicular to the ground, but this is ok, you just can't keep it in a bag or purse while walking. Also, you need to have the pedometer clipped to you, it apparently won't work if it is on a lanyard or worn loosely.

Mine is NOT working (3rd update)
PLEASE READ 3rd UPDATE.
I purchased mine this past weekend and although I've only used it three times it is working GREAT!
I use mine for walking, not running.
The only problem I found with accuracy is when I tried using it with a lanyard. It just bounces too much. If you attach the clip to a SOLID piece of clothing (I use my bra) then it works very well. Also it has to be in the right position, not just laying in a pocket, but if you use the clip then it will automatically be in the right position.
I only gave it four stars because at .99 at the sporting goods store, it was a bit pricey.
I'll update as I use it.
UPDATE: Mine is still working just fine. I've been using it nearly every day since I purchased it. Remember that the timer will stop if you stop. The MPH is an "average" speed. The pedometer should be CLIPPED in the center of your body. I thought I was having trouble with checking the 7 day memory but after a few days I figured it out. My only complaint so far is that when I go back to check the 7 day it does not tell me how many minutes I walked during that session. I do not use it for running but I have used it for walking on paved surfaces and trails and it seems to be accurate. This week I'm going to re-measure my steps to make sure they are still the same. What I love most about this is that the calories burned are based on a persons weight (and I think age) which makes a BIG difference.
Also, when I thought I was having trouble with the 7 day memory I emailed the company and within a day I received back an email with a phone number to call. I didn't have to call the number because I figured out my problem, but I thought their response was reasonable.
2nd UPDATE 06/02/10: Okay, so I have had a problem. I keep mine in the clip holder that comes with it. Yesterday I slipped it out because I noticed that the clip part was cracked (but it still seems to clip just fine). Well, the next time I looked at the pedometer it was blank. I replaced the battery and the same result...blank. Then I happen to squeeze the pedometer and presto it came on...then it went off again when I let go. :( Finally I slipped it back into the clip holder and it works again. My husband suggested the battery spring was not adjusted properly.
I'm going to send an email to the company and see what response I get.
3rd (and last) UPDATE 06/08/10: It broke. Y'all are right, it's junk. :( I feel bad because I sent one as a gift, too. I never did email the company again. I might still try that. Maybe they'll send me another one and I can then send that as a backup for the person I sent one to.
The problem does seem to be with the battery housing. This last time I took the battery out, put it back in, slid it into the sleeve and the only thing that works is the clock...which you can't set because the buttons won't work.
It's crap and I only got about six weeks worth of use out of it.

I don't see any issue with the step counter
I only gave this 3 stars because I'm going to take other peoples word for it when it comes to the other features such as tracking mileage. I haven't used this enough to figure out how accurate it is because I haven't driven through a golf course to check the mileage I walk as this is where I usually use this step counter the most. But as for the step counter, i found this to be very accurate. The first 3 days I had this I would literally count every step I took from the second i clipped it on, until I got to my car or until I got from my car to my office. Then I would look at the pedometer and it would be off by about 4-5 steps which in my opinion is pretty damn accurate. I would count steps up to about 300 and it would read 305. So I don't know if I measured my stride better then these people or what, but the step counter seems to be pretty accurate to me. But you are right... for just a step counter, is expensive, I found mine on a golf course (someone must have dropped it) so I got a deal ;)

Crap!
I bought this pedometer hoping it would be better than the cheaper ones I purchased and returned because they were all inaacurate. Well, this one is totally inaccurate, too. I bought this for my running training because I am trying to increase the distance I am running...but the distance measurements were completely inaccurate. I will be returning this immediately and I will not buy another Sportline product again.

Like everyone else, I say, DON'T BUY IT
Same problems as other people: the battery won't stay connected and the thing is generally a terrible piece of junk. I had a very cheap SportLine model that also gave me problems and I thought if I bought an expensive version it would do better. It is worse. SportLine is the only brand sold in my local sporting good stores--can't imagine how they cornered the market.
